Keep every repair moving—from estimate to paid invoice

Square gives auto repair shops, detailers, tire installers, body shops, car washes, mobile services, and other automotive teams one connected way to run the customer journey. Build service catalogs and estimates, schedule technicians, collect deposits, send contracts and invoices, and take payment at the counter, at the vehicle, or online.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

Customer profiles keep vehicle-service conversations and purchase history together, while real-time reporting helps owners compare locations and follow revenue. Use Square’s free core plan to start, then add paid plan features when your shop needs richer scheduling, payment schedules, custom templates, advanced reporting, or priority support.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Turn a quote into a clear job plan

Create standardized service and item catalogs, send detailed estimates, use contracts for terms and signatures, and convert accepted estimates into invoices so customers know what work is approved before the repair begins.

  • Book bays, technicians, and mobile visits

Square Appointments supports online booking, unlimited staff calendars, reminders, deposits, cancellation and no-show policies, multi-location scheduling, and resource management—useful for bays, service windows, and mobile routes, subject to the selected plan.

  • Get paid wherever the vehicle is

Take tap, chip, swipe, digital-wallet, cash, check, ACH, or invoice payments. Square Terminal, Register, Handheld, Reader, Tap to Pay, invoices, and payment links let a shop choose a counter, driveway, bay, or mobile checkout workflow.

  • Keep customers updated without losing the thread

Customer Directory automatically builds profiles from sales and stores purchase history. Square Messages can keep service conversations, receipts, estimates, invoices, and payment links together, while Square Marketing can target follow-ups and win-back campaigns.

  • See performance across locations

Square Dashboard and Analytics provide sales and fee reporting by item, category, time frame, and location. Square’s Automotive page also highlights multi-location scheduling and a franchise operator story with location metrics, car counts, and average tickets.

A practical workflow for repair and maintenance teams

Use a service catalog for oil changes, inspections, tires, detailing, tint, parts installation, and other repeatable work. A customer can book or request service, receive an estimate or contract, approve the job, get progress updates, and pay through an invoice or in-person checkout. Square names routine maintenance, repair and cleaning businesses, including oil-change shops, body and collision centers, tire installers, smog shops, mobile services, car washes, detailers, vinyl and tint installers, and aftermarket installers.

Plans and add-ons are feature-driven

Square Free has no monthly subscription cost and includes core POS, an online site, item library, estimates, contracts, invoices, booking, and payment acceptance; it charges processing when a payment is taken. Square Plus and Premium add progressively more advanced POS, scheduling, communication, marketing, reporting, and support features. Square Contracts itself has no subscription or monthly fee. Square Pro is custom-priced; Square says sellers processing over $250,000 per year can ask about custom processing, hardware discounts, onboarding, technical specialists, and account management.

Native tools plus an optional automotive integration

Square’s native tools cover payments, estimates, contracts, invoices, appointments, messaging, customer records, staff access, and reporting, but the Automotive page does not claim vehicle-specific VIN, license-plate, inspection, or technician workflow features in native Square software. Square App Marketplace lists VIP Shop Management as a separate U.S.-available integration for independent repair shops with VIN decoding, license-plate recognition, digital vehicle inspections, mileage capture, and technician workflow tools. Confirm pricing, data flow, support, and fit with that provider before recommending it.

Square Free starts at $0 monthly and charges processing when a payment is taken. Plus and Premium are paid plans with 30-day trials; the U.S. Automotive page does not publish an Automotive-specific monthly price. Square Pro is custom-priced. Square Contracts has no subscription or monthly fee.

Requirements

  • Square account and U.S. eligibility are required; payment processing is subject to Square account approval and applicable terms.
  • Hardware is optional: Square states that invoices, payment links, Virtual Terminal, Tap to Pay on iPhone, and Tap to Pay on Android can accept payments without purchased hardware.
  • Square Terminal is $299 before tax and fees; its optional Hub is $39 for Ethernet and accessories such as a cash drawer, barcode scanner, or additional printers.
  • Hardware installment plans are subject to credit approval, use 15% APR, have state availability exclusions, and may have purchase amount and term limits.
  • Offline payments require reconnecting to the internet within 24 hours of the first offline payment; the seller bears responsibility for expired, declined, or disputed offline payments.
  • Square’s Automotive page says sellers processing over $250,000 annually can ask about custom pricing and processing fees; eligibility is not guaranteed.

Published plan and processing rates are U.S. rates retrieved on 2026-10-27 and can change; confirm the checkout or Dashboard price before purchase.

Square does not publish one Automotive-specific monthly subscription price on the Automotive page; plan costs depend on the selected Square plan and any add-ons.

The Automotive page describes estimates, work orders, scheduling, invoices, and customer updates but does not establish native vehicle database, VIN decoding, license-plate recognition, digital inspection, parts-catalog, or repair-order features.

VIP Shop Management is listed in Square App Marketplace as a separate third-party integration available in the United States; its pricing, contract, support, and feature availability should be confirmed with the provider.

Square Contracts provides document tools and templates, not legal advice; automotive businesses should have state-specific terms reviewed by qualified counsel.

Offline payments carry seller risk and are not supported on older first-generation Square Reader for contactless and chip versions v1 and v2.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can an auto shop use Square without buying a terminal?

Yes. Square says hardware is not required: a shop can use invoices, payment links, Virtual Terminal, Tap to Pay on iPhone, or Tap to Pay on Android. If a counter device is preferred, Square Terminal is listed at $299 before taxes and fees, while Square Reader for contactless and chip is listed at $59.

Does Square include VIN decoding and digital vehicle inspections?

Not as a native Automotive capability documented on Square’s Automotive page. Square App Marketplace lists VIP Shop Management, a separate U.S.-available integration for independent repair shops, with VIN decoding, license-plate recognition, mileage capture, digital vehicle inspections, and technician workflow features. Verify that integration directly before relying on it.

What does Square charge an automotive business for card payments?

On Square Free, the published U.S. rates are 2.6% + 15¢ for in-person tap, dip, or swipe; 3.3% + 30¢ for online or invoice card payments; 3.5% + 15¢ for manual entry or card on file; and 1% with a $1 minimum for ACH via invoice. Plus and Premium publish lower card rates and a $10 ACH invoice fee cap.
