Networking Kit for Quick Service Restaurant

A commercial-grade network foundation for a fast-moving QSR

Keep order entry, payments, kitchen printers, displays, and online orders connected through a network sized for quick-service work. Square’s U.S.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

Networking Kit for Quick Service Restaurant bundles a UniFi UCG Ultra gateway, a 16-port UniFi Lite PoE switch, two UniFi U6+ indoor access points, and Ethernet patch cables. It is a practical starting point for a counter-service restaurant, drive-thru operation, or fast-casual dining room that has outgrown an ISP router. Coverage still depends on the building: Square estimates 1,000 square feet per included access point in a simple, single-floor drywall layout, so brick, concrete, split-level, or irregular spaces may need more access points and professional cabling.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Keep high-volume service devices on a stronger foundation

The gateway, PoE switch, and two Wi-Fi 6 access points give a QSR a coordinated starting network for registers, handheld ordering, kitchen equipment, and staff devices instead of relying on a basic consumer router.

  • Power access points over Ethernet

The included 16-port switch has eight PoE/PoE+ ports. Square’s setup instructions direct sellers to hardwire access points through PoE-capable switch ports, avoiding an improvised mesh arrangement for core restaurant equipment.

  • Designed around a quick-service layout

Two ceiling-mountable indoor access points suit a straightforward single-floor restaurant and help connect front-of-house and back-of-house devices. Square says the actual count depends on floor area, shape, walls, and device density.

  • Create a dedicated POS network

The UniFi guide provides an optional Store-Square VLAN and separate guest network so POS devices and network printers can be isolated from employee and customer traffic. This is useful when a busy lunch rush depends on local device discovery and printing.

  • Leave room for expansion

The gateway has four GbE LAN ports and the switch has 16 GbE ports, giving a growing QSR additional wired connection points for registers, printers, displays, and other networked equipment, subject to the site’s design and configuration.

Product details

What is included

The U.S. kit includes one UniFi UCG Ultra Cloud Gateway, one UniFi Switch Lite 16 PoE, two UniFi U6+ access points with mounting hardware, power cables, and two white Cat6 RJ45 patch cables in 6-foot and 10-foot lengths. An optional outdoor access point is offered at checkout for an additional $179. The product listing identifies manufacturer SKUs UCG-Ultra, USW-Lite-16-POE, U6+-US, U-Cable-Patch-2M-RJ45, and U-Cable-Patch-3M-RJ45.

Network and installation requirements

Square recommends a reliable ISP connection, with at least 25 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up required for Square to work well; 100 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up is preferred, with higher speeds potentially needed for more devices or complex sites. Access points generally need dedicated Cat5e-or-better Ethernet runs and should be placed to maximize coverage. Square recommends one access point per large room up to 1,000 square feet, at least 35 feet between access points, and a climate-controlled or well-ventilated equipment location. Complex installations may take a day or more and may warrant an IT professional or certified installer.

Compatibility and operational limits

The kit is networking infrastructure rather than a POS, payment account, or internet service. It requires an ISP modem or connection, electrical power, Ethernet runs, UniFi app setup, and ongoing maintenance. Square hardware network requirements call for HTTPS on port 443 and NTP access; supported Wi-Fi authentication includes WPA/WPA2 PSK and U.S.-only WEP, while WPA/WPA2 Enterprise and WPA3 PSK/Enterprise are not supported. Square recommends account owners or networking professionals handle complex configuration.

Square software and restaurant-plan context

The kit can support Square POS devices and peripherals, but buying it does not itself include Square Restaurant POS, payments processing, Kitchen Display System software, online ordering, or an ISP plan. Square’s current U.S. restaurant pricing page shows Free, Plus, and Premium restaurant plans, with plan-dependent features and processing rates; Square KDS is an additional per-device fee on paid plans and unavailable on Free. Restaurants processing over $250,000 annually can ask Square about Pro custom pricing, processing fees, hardware discounts, onboarding, and implementation support.

U.S. list price is $599.00 for the kit. An outdoor access point is an optional $179.00 add-on. The listing also shows $55.00/mo with financing, but that is a credit-sale installment option, not a networking subscription. Square Restaurant POS plans, payment processing, ISP service, installation, extra access points, and additional cabling are separate costs.

Requirements

  • A reliable ISP connection and modem or equivalent upstream internet service.
  • Electrical power, Ethernet runs, mounting locations, and a suitable ventilated equipment area.
  • UniFi app setup and configuration; complex layouts may require an IT professional or certified installer.
  • A Square account and compatible Square hardware/software are separate from the networking hardware purchase.
  • For restricted networks, allow required Square HTTPS, NTP, printer ports, domains, and device access as documented by Square.

Coverage is not guaranteed by the two-access-point count: Square estimates 1,000 sq ft per U6+ access point only for a square or rectangular single-floor area with drywall. Brick, concrete, L- or H-shaped layouts, multiple floors, and high device density can require additional access points.

The kit is not a payment terminal, POS subscription, internet service, or turnkey installation service.

Square advises that only account owners or networking professionals configure complex network setups. VLANs and isolated networks can improve reliability but add configuration and maintenance work.

Square does not recommend mesh networks for this setup; access points should generally be hardwired. The included U6+ access points do not include PoE injectors, so the included PoE switch or separately purchased injectors are needed.

Offline payments are a Square POS capability with separate conditions and risk; the networking kit does not make payments work without an internet connection.

Processing fees and software prices are plan- and payment-type-specific and can change; confirm the merchant’s checkout and Square pricing page before publication or purchase.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does this kit include Square Restaurant POS or payment processing?

No. It is network infrastructure only: gateway, PoE switch, access points, cables, power supplies, and mounting hardware. A Square account, restaurant software plan, compatible POS hardware, payment-processing terms, and internet service are separate.

How much space can the included access points cover?

Square advertises about 1,000 square feet per included UniFi U6+ access point when the space is a simple square or rectangle on one floor with drywall. A QSR with concrete or brick, an irregular footprint, multiple floors, or many connected devices may need additional access points and Ethernet work.

Can a restaurant install the kit without an IT professional?

A technically confident owner can follow Square’s UniFi setup guide, but the work includes gateway adoption, PoE wiring, access-point placement, and potentially VLAN and firewall configuration. Square recommends an IT professional for complex layouts, many access points, hardwired equipment, or teams that are not comfortable maintaining the network.
