Square Loans

Flexible business funding tied to your Square sales

Square Loans gives eligible U.S. Square sellers a business-funding option without a monthly subscription or ongoing interest charge.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

Square reviews your processing activity and, when it extends an invitation, shows a customized offer in Dashboard. Offer amounts range from $100 to $500,000, with the final amount, fixed fee, and repayment rate based on your business profile. Repayment is collected automatically as a percentage of eligible daily sales, while minimum payments still apply. For a bakery buying an oven, a food truck covering a seasonal build-out, or a salon funding equipment, the useful distinction is cash-flow alignment—not guaranteed approval: Square reviews accounts daily, and an offer is never promised.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Invitation-based offers sized to your business

Square evaluates factors such as processing volume, account history, payment frequency, and customer mix, then presents a customized offer when your account qualifies. Published offer amounts range from $100 to $500,000; the amount shown in Dashboard is the offer available at that time.

  • No ongoing interest charge

The cost is one fixed loan fee, defined as the difference between the initial loan amount and total amount owed. The fee is shown in the offer and does not grow with the repayment timeline; Square does not publish one universal fee for every seller.

  • Repayment follows eligible sales

A fixed percentage is automatically applied to eligible gross sales, including card transactions, tips and taxes paid by card, invoices, ACH payments, and Cash App QR-code payments. The dollar amount varies with sales, but minimum payments and the maturity date in the agreement still apply.

  • Fast access after approval

Approved funds are deposited to an external linked bank account in 1–3 business days, or instantly when deposited into Square Checking. Applications generally take 1–2 business days to review, and additional verification can extend that timing.

  • Dashboard visibility and reporting

The Loans area of Square Dashboard shows offer and repayment details, while payment history and outstanding balance reports can be reviewed and exported. Daily loan payment summaries are also emailed.

What a Square seller needs before applying

Square Loans are currently offered by invitation only; there is no public application that can be submitted without an offer. Square says accounts are reviewed automatically, generally daily, while processing with Square. Key signals include at least $10,000 processed in a year and use of Square on at least 20 days in the last year, but these are not guarantees. An applicant must provide personal and business identity information, including a valid SSN or ITIN, and qualifying entities must provide control, ownership, and beneficial-owner information. Only one active Square loan is allowed per location at a time.

Repayment, deposits, and meaningful limitations

Repayment starts two business days after origination and is taken first from Square balance, with any remaining minimum-payment amount potentially debited from the linked bank account. Missing a minimum payment or reaching maturity can trigger a higher repayment rate or a debit for the amount due. Prepayment is allowed at no additional cost, but it does not reduce the fixed total cost, reverse payments, or guarantee a future offer. Square does not report these loans to third-party credit bureaus, although it may perform a soft credit check. Tax-exempt organizations are not eligible for a Square loan at this time, and Square says businesses selling CBD products and/or services are ineligible for new loans as of August 2026.

Collateral and funding destination

Loans of $100,000 or less do not require collateral according to Square. For amounts above $100,000, Square may take a security interest in business assets and file a UCC statement; loans above $250,000 require a personal guarantee. Funds go to the external linked bank account in 1–3 business days or to Square Checking instantly. The product is financial software managed through Square Dashboard, not a point-of-sale subscription or a hardware device.

No monthly subscription price is published for Square Loans. Eligible U.S. sellers receive a customized offer showing the loan amount, one fixed loan fee, repayment percentage, minimum payment, and maturity terms.

Fees & eligibility

  • Fixed loan fee

Varies with payment processing history, loan amount, and other eligibility factors; it is the difference between total owed and the initial loan amount.

Custom amount shown in the accepted offer; no universal published dollar amount
  • Ongoing interest

Square describes the product as having no ongoing interest; the fixed loan fee remains the total loan cost.

    $0 interest charge
  • Repayment rate

Applied automatically to eligible sales in addition to Square payment-processing fees; minimum payments and maturity terms still apply.

Custom percentage of eligible gross sales shown in the loan agreement
  • Late fee

Square says no additional late fees are added, but missed minimums or maturity can lead to a higher repayment rate or debit.

    $0 additional late fee

Requirements

  • U.S. Square seller with an invitation visible in Square Dashboard; eligibility is not guaranteed.
  • Square account activity used for automated review, including processing volume, account history, payment frequency, customer mix, disputes, reserves, and failed debits.
  • Valid SSN or ITIN plus required business, control, ownership, and beneficial-owner information for applicable entities.

Square Loans are issued and underwritten by Square Financial Services, Inc., a Utah-chartered industrial bank.

Offer eligibility, amount, fixed fee, repayment rate, minimum payment, and maturity are individualized; the public product page does not establish a universal APR, fee schedule, or approval threshold.

Repayment applies to eligible gross sales and is separate from Square payment-processing fees.

Prepaying does not reduce the fixed total cost and does not guarantee another offer; offers may expire and a new offer is not manually generated on request.

Square does not provide tax advice. Its support materials state that Square Financial Services does not issue a 1099-INT for these loans.

Tax-exempt organizations are not eligible at this time, and Square states that businesses selling CBD products and/or services are not eligible for new loans as of August 2026.

This record is U.S.-specific and was verified on 2026-10-27; terms can change and the accepted loan agreement controls.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can any Square seller apply for Square Loans?

No. Square Loans are invitation-only. Square reviews seller accounts automatically and displays an offer in the Loans area of Dashboard when the business is eligible. If no offer is shown, Square says the seller cannot apply at that time.

How much does Square Loans cost?

There is no published universal fee. An accepted offer shows one fixed loan fee, which is the difference between the initial loan amount and total amount owed. Square says there is no ongoing interest and no additional late fee, but minimum payments and other loan terms apply.

Does Square Loans require collateral or affect personal credit?

Square says no collateral is required for loans of $100,000 or less. For amounts above $100,000 it may take a security interest in business assets and file a UCC statement, and loans above $250,000 require a personal guarantee. Applying does not affect the credit score, although Square may perform a soft credit check.
